Blossom Update – April 2023

Since the February update, I’ve continued working on expanding the resources that are available on Blossom. Part of that time has gone into adding more courses to psychedelicscourses.com, and a lot of time has gone into expanding research coverage.

Next to the direct work on Blossom, I’ve done consultancy work and built a new interface that should go live within a few weeks.

Below I share some of the metrics for Blossom, which I hope to make available in graph form (and have them update automatically) sometime in the near future.

For the coming months, one of the main goals is to focus on providing value for Blossom’s (paying) members. As always, 99% of the content on Blossom is freely available, but the goal is to generate enough revenue to pay myself and hire one (or later two) people to help maintain the various public databases (e.g. events, courses).

Blossom’s Metrics

The Bloom Subscribers: 2004 (up from 1751 in February, 54% open rate)

Sprout Members: 8 (up from 8 in February; €120 p/m)

Revenue from PsychedelicsCourse: €0 (no initial luck, but site is growing)

Traffic Blossom: 9.4k users (up from 8.6k in February, 28 days)

Milestones for April 2023

I’ve updated the roadmap to include Q2. The biggest goal, at the moment, is understanding better what people want to see on Blossom. To this effect, I’m doing customer interviews and have spoken to five people already.

The biggest question (I still have) centres around who’s using Blossom. The common factor is ‘people interested in psychedelic research’, but that can range from a local retreat guide to an investment banker. To get more clarity, besides the interviews, I’ve asked new subscribers of The Bloom which of the 11 groups they most identify with. The plan is to be able to offer different newsletters (or at least different formats of the same information) at some time.

The transparent goal is to have monthly recurring revenue from Blossom’s resources. If that is mostly the research tracking/updates/summaries or possibly a course I can offer is still to be seen.

Pending new information from the interviews, these are some of the things I’m likely to work on:

  • Update the remaining courses with full information (still some to be finished)
    • Add quiz to the site to help people discover the course that fits them
  • Add summaries to more research papers (from the past)
  • Revamp the reports and provide downloads for members
    • Add an examine.com-like effect matrix on the report pages
  • Update membership page to better show (future) benefits
  • Provide information on who-is-who and what each research centre is working on
  • Prepare my talk at PS2023 (which builds greatly on the database)
  • Finish the revamp of the books database
  • Update the Originals database
  • Go live with the new interface
