Research with psychedelics is taking place at the Human Behavioral Pharmacology Lab at the University of Chicago. Led by Harriet de Wit, researchers at the lab are exploring the individual differences in responses to psychoactive drugs, the effects of drugs at different phases of the menstrual cycle, and the effects of psychedelic-type drugs such as MDMA and LSD on mood and neural function.
These studies are designed to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying motivated behaviour and of the processes underlying drug and alcohol use in the hope of identifying risk factors for excessive drug use and predicting and preventing adverse responses to drugs.
