This interventional trial (n=20) investigates the neurobiological mechanisms underlying MDMA-induced prosocial behaviour, specifically focusing on the role of the 5-HT2a receptor.
Led by Maastricht University’s Dr. Kim Kuypers and supported by NWO, the study aims to understand how MDMA affects social cognition and interaction, and whether these effects are influenced by social context.
Participants aged 18-35 with MDMA experience undergo a four-way crossover study, receiving single doses and combinations of MDMA and the 5-HT2a blocker ketanserin. The study measures cognitive and affective empathy using various tasks.
Recruitment is ongoing, with an anticipated start date of January 2013.
