The Effect of LSD on Neural Synchrony, Prosocial Behavior, and Relationship Quality

This double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial (n=60) investigates the effects of LSD (50µg) on neural synchrony, prosocial behaviour, and relationship quality in healthy romantic couples.

The study, conducted by Maastricht University, aims to explore whether LSD enhances neural synchrony between partners and if it influences prosocial behaviours. The researchers hypothesize that psychedelics increase prosocial behaviours by increasing neural synchrony.

The trial involves 30 couples receiving both placebo and an oral dose of 50 µg of LSD in a randomized sequence, with a minimum 14-day washout between conditions. The study duration is minimally four weeks, with the primary completion estimated by January 2024.
