The Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Graduate Certificate Program is designed for professional therapists and clinicians who wish to train in and support psychedelic-assisted therapies. The program focuses on the opportunities and challenges of this advanced practice area. Participants will be part of a small, interdisciplinary learning community that aims to enhance their therapeutic capacity and provide safe and inclusive care.
The program starts in September and comprises four courses, with the first three being online theory courses. The final course, PAT 504, is a hybrid course that includes both online learning and in-person supervised practice in a program that delivers psychedelic-assisted therapies. The full program can be completed remotely if an approved practicum site is available near the trainee’s location.
The program is 15 credits in total and covers the following topics:
- PAT 501: Introduction to Psychedelic Medicine
- PAT 502: Psychedelic Medicine: Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care
- PAT 503: Psychedelic-assisted Therapy: Professional Practice
- PAT 504: Psychedelic-assisted Therapy in Practice (Practicum)
Admission requirements include an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in health, human services, or related fields, a resume with a cover letter and professional references, at least two years of related experience in the field, and an interview. For applicants whose previous degree was obtained in a country where English is not the primary/official language, they must meet one of VIU’s English Language requirements for Academic Programs.
