The University of Sydney is Australias oldest university. At the psychopharmacology laboratory, researchers have conducted some research with psychedelics. These researchers are interested in the effects MDMA has on the brain as well as other drugs like cannabis and mephedrone.
At USYD, two research teams were awarded over $3 million AUD by the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) under the Australian Government’s Innovative Therapies for Mental Illness Grant. One group will be led by Associate Professor Kirsten Morley from the Faculty of Medicine and Health and will examine the efficacy of MDMA-assisted therapy to treat combined Alcohol Use Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The second research team have been awarded funding to conduct a trial exploring the effects of psilocybin-assisted therapy for the eating disorder anorexia nervosa.
