The University of São Paulo the largest public university in Brazil and has been conducting research with psychedelics for many years. Given the traditional use of ayahuasca and by ayahuasca religions such as Santo Daime, União do Vegetal, and Barquinha and its subsequent legal status in Brazil, this plant has been the focus of a lot of research.
The Centro Brasileiro de Informações sobre Drogas Psicotrópicas (CEBRID) or the Brazilian Center for Information on Psychotropic Drugs is where much of the research on ethnopharmacology plant medicines like ayahuasca, psilocybin and ibogaine takes place at USP.
