Roots to Thrive is an innovative ketamine assisted psychotherapy program, affiliated with Vancouver Island University (VIU).
The RTT-KAT program was established with the intention of delivering ketamine-assisted therapy to healthcare providers who are experiencing mental health issues as a result of their work. After successfully delivering ketamine-assisted therapy programs, the team at Roots to Thrive developed a psilocybin-assisted therapy program for patients experiencing end-of-life distress through My Community Journeys.
In November 2021, the team announced they facilitated psilocybin-assisted therapy at no cost for nine end-of-life patients who qualified for section 56 exemptions under Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). This was the first legal group therapy session with psilocybin mushrooms ever in North America.
