PAREA

PAREA, or the Psychedelic Access and Research European Alliance, is a non-profit, membership-led organization that aims to raise awareness and accelerate the scientific and policy response to psychedelic-assisted therapies in Europe. The organization brings together patient organizations, medical associations, scientific societies, umbrella coalitions, psychedelic foundations, and the for-profit sector to advocate for safe, effective and accessible psychedelic therapies in Europe.

PAREA believes that unlocking the therapeutic potential of psychedelic novel treatments can help millions of Europeans who are in need of better treatment options. The organization’s mission is to safely and responsibly integrate psychedelic-assisted therapies into European mainstream health services, making them an additional therapeutic option that is accessible and affordable for all.

To achieve its mission, PAREA will strive to change perceptions about psychedelic medicines and therapies by promoting evidence-based information, fostering more EU-funded research to increase the scientific and clinical evidence supporting the safe use of these compounds as therapies, facilitating new research partnerships, collaborating to accelerate marketing authorization for psychedelic novel treatments, push for a coherent and harmonized EU policy and regulatory framework, generate solutions to prepare healthcare systems for the adoption of these transformative therapies, safeguard timely and equitable access, and ensure that the development of psychedelic therapies is guided by public health benefit and research freedom.

The organization’s main objectives include fostering research to increase clinical evidence supporting the safe use of psychedelic compounds as therapies, decreasing stigma by education and promoting evidence-based information, promoting meaningful engagement and safeguarding optimal care and safety for patients, increasing collaboration between civil society, scientists, and policymakers, and building capacity at the healthcare-system level. PAREA is committed to working with EU institutions and member states to provide evidence-based policy recommendations and support the safe and effective integration of psychedelic therapies in Europe.
