In June 2021, PSYCH and Blossom conducted a nationally representative consumer survey in five countries. The aim of which was to gauge awareness of, and attitudes towards, the potential use of psychedelics for the treatment of a variety of mental health conditions. March was a great month for research into psychedelics. The month featured a large-scale microdosing study where participants self-blinded their psychedelics. Other studies helped us form a framework around psychedelic retreats and how community factors help someone have better outcomes. Whilst other studies have, once again, shown the power of placebo and possible ways of dissecting that from other factors such as the active drug.

February 2021 was another great month for psychedelic research and advocacy. Many brain (fMRI) studies were done and these help us better understand the mechanisms of action and why people respond in different ways to psychedelics. One study (in mice) even provided (more) evidence for neuronal growth.
This is the Psychedelics News in January 2021. Studies with psychedelics are continuing into this new year. A trend seen this month is the further cooperation between the ‘big’ corporates and research centers and universities.
December was no sleepy winter month this year as the psychedelics field keeps pushing forward. We identified seven new significant papers that advanced the field of psychedelics. NGOs kept pushing for access and this year has seen patients in Canada (finally) get access to psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy. MAPS shared that its Phase III study was a success and that a final approval is expected within two years.
Around the world, there are many psychedelic communities. These communities offer a place to get together and discuss the science, culture, and use of psychedelics. Some communities bring together researchers (e.g. at conferences), whilst others offer local meetups to psychedelic enthusiasts.
In November 2020, psychedelics had a big win in decriminalization, studies expanded the scope where psychedelics can help, and companies raked in the listings and funding.
